On 26th March 2015, a revised version of this document was published, please go to: Working Together to Safeguard Children 2015
On 15th April 2013, a key safeguarding document came into force. The new Working Together to Safeguard Children 2013 replaces a document with the same title that was first published in 2010. The new document is much slimmer than its predecessor and emphasises developing local procedures to meet local needs.
A large prescriptive section on training has been removed. The guidance now says that training in safeguarding and child protection should be ‘appropriate…to ensure staff are competent to carry out their responsibilities for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children…’. New staff should receive a mandatory induction to familiarise themselves with the child protection procedures.
